A Reading
Jesus then went into the Temple and drove out all those who were selling and buying there; he upset the tables of the money-changers and the seats of the dove-sellers. He said to them, “According to scripture, my house will be called a house of prayer; but you are turning it into a bandits den.” There were also blind and lame people who came to him in the Temple, and he cured them. At the sight of the wonderful things he did and of the children shouting, “Hosanna to the son of David” in the Temple, the chief priests and the scribes were indignant and said to him, “Do you hear what they are saying?” Jesus answered, “Yes. Have you never read this: ‘By the mouths of children, babes in arms, you have made sure of praise?’” With that he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
Matthew 21:12-17
The Refrain
Deliverance belongs to the LORD. Your blessing be upon your people!
The Morning Psalm
Give Me the Joy of Your Saving Health
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence and take not your holy Spirit from me.
Give me the joy of your saving help again and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.
I shall teach your ways to the wicked, and sinners shall return to you.
Psalm 51:11-14
The Refrain
Deliverance belongs to the LORD. Your blessing be upon your people!
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil;
for yours are the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
The Prayer Appointed for the Week
Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that I, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Concluding Prayer of the Church
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought me in safety to this new day. Preserve me with your mighty power, that I may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all that I do direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
