Day 19 - Confidence, His Name is the Holy Spirit

15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
16:1 “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. 3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. (John 15:26-16:4 ESV)

One of the reasons I read the Bible everyday is so that I could be reminded of what God tells me. If I didn’t, I’d forget what he says.

I think the reality is that for most of us, if we’re reading the Bible regularly, we’ll forget what the Bible says. The reason we forget is because we’re just bombarded by information everywhere and that information just becomes noise.

But for the Christian, the Word of God should not just be another piece of information. We should be able to pick out his voice and his words amongst the noise and sea of information and pay attention to it. The same way, we could pick out the sound of our child(ren) or parent(s) from a crowd calling us “mom,” “dad,” or “son,” “daughter,” we should be able to hear God calling us directly as we face the circumstances of our day. The noise we’re bombarded with shouldn’t matter or cloud our ability to hear or see our God.

That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in. He is the third person of the Trinity. He helps us experience God with us because he is God, and he is in us. He tells us about God and reminds us of the promises and truths of God.

As we are reminded by God, the Holy Spirit, about the Word of God proceeding from the Father, we can be assured in our faith, that God is never leaving us alone. He is with us and is partaking in life’s circumstances with us. How amazing and wonderful!

Pray and give thanks to God for this awesome gift of the Holy Spirit to keep reminding us of his presence in our lives so we can have confidence in faith.
