Later on, I went back to school and earned my Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix, which was a huge milestone in my life. What are some victories I can celebrate with you? Despite the separation and confinement that the pandemic has created for us, our ministry brings us together. Among children and adolescents, 65 participate in our Sunday Bible School. They faithfully attend and receive the teaching of the Word of God via the internet. Learn more about Cedarbrook's history. Cedarbrook Community Church was planted by Pastor Paul Abbott and a small group of 40 people from Valley Brook Community Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. This new church began meeting in March of 1989 at the Loews Movie Theater in Gaithersburg, Maryland. OUR STORY In March 1989 Cedarbrook Community Church was planted by Pastor Paul Abbott and a group of 40 Jesus loving people at the Loews Movie Theater in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In those first days, the lighting and sound, Sunday school classes, caregiving, worship and arts, small group leadership – all the activities that are handled today by so many – were carried by just a few dedicated volunteers. These men and women sacrificed their time, energy, and money with the confidence that God would use their efforts to advance the Gospel and make a difference in the lives of others. And He has! During the 1990’s that small handful of men and women saw our church grow... and grow... and grow. New staff and ministries were added. People who had never been to – or given up on – church found a vibrant relationship with Christ and discovered community with others. We moved from the movie theater to the Montgomery Playhouse, and then again to Northwest High School in Germantown. In the summer of 1995, we purchased land in Clarksburg and in June of 2000, we held our first services in our very own church building. We love being part of the Clarksburg community. Since settling here, we have continued to make a difference in the lives of many both inside and outside of our church family. Homes have been provided and furnished for the homeless. Through our Clarksburg Closet ministry, we have provided free clothing for scores of families in need all over Montgomery County. Through our ESOL ministry, hundreds of men and women have been able to learn English in a loving and welcoming environment. Again, and again, we have had a front-row seat to see God at work: lives have been changed, marriages rebuilt, addictions broken, character developed, and relationships restored. As we look to the future, we believe God has good things planned for us. We believe God is doing something special here. We are still learning, and still growing, and we would love to have you join us. There is a place here for you, a place to connect… to grow… and to serve. Non-Cash Giving There are many ways to make a gift to Cedarbrook Community Church. Below are some of the most common ways to make a gift, whether it is to a specific ministry that you are passionate about or to our General Fund that goes to areas of greatest need. More information about each of these areas can be found below. Stocks and Mutual Funds When you give appreciated securities to Cedarbrook, you’re leveraging your tax benefits for Kingdom development. Donors may deduct the fair market value of the securities while avoiding tax on the appreciated gain. In short, donors may claim both the security and its appreciation as a charitable contribution income tax deduction without incurring a capital gains tax. Consult with your financial and/or tax advisor to analyze your particular situation and confirm tax benefits. The deduction is based on the fair market value of the securities on the date they are owned by the church (typically, this is the date the securities are deposited into the church’s brokerage account). Cedarbrook’s policy is to immediately sell the securities received and then use the net proceeds for the designated charitable purpose of the gift. This year, Cedarbrook presents “Proof Pirates” — setting sail to explore a love that is Planned, Resurrecting, Outrageous, Overcoming, and Forever. (*Must be potty-trained.) WELCOME TO THE BEST WEEK OF THE YEAR Cedarbrook VBS 2026 VBS is a four-day adventure like no other, designed for kids ages 4* through grade 5! This exciting experience will take students on a journey filled with powerful storytelling, adrenaline-pumping games, creatively inspired crafts, and high-energy songs. Through it all, kids will encounter the transformative power of love and grace, all while having a blast with new friends! (*Must be potty-trained). CAMPER REGISTRATION Frequently Asked Questions What grade do I register my child for? VBS is designed for kids 4 years old (potty trained) through 5th grade in the Fall of 2026. What is your cancellation/refund policy? Refunds are available until May 26, 2026. After May 26, 2026 there are no refunds for cancellations. What about current 5th graders? If your child is a current 5th grader going into 6th grade, he or she should join our youth team to volunteer on site. We have special things planned just for them. Do you have volunteer discounts? Yes, we have volunteer discounts for kids whose parent(s) are serving at our VBS. We cannot run VBS without you. Once you are signed up to volunteer we will issue you a promo code. What should my kids wear? Please have your child wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes each day to VBS. On the first day, your child will be given a VBS t-shirt at check-in. Your child must wear the VBS t-shirt everyday afterward during VBS week. What does a typical day look like? This is just a sample, depending the grade, the order activities and events may change. 8:45–9am: Doors open 9–9:40am: Large Group Open 9:45–10:10am: Small group 10:15–10:40am: Crafts 10:45–11:10am: Snack 11:15–11:40am: Games 11:45am–12:00pm: Large Group Close Are there scholarships available? We’re happy to help make this fun, faith-filled week accessible to all! When do I drop off and pick up my child each day? Doors open at 8:45am each day. An adult must check-in children and drop them off with their small group each day. Kids cannot check themselves in or out by themselves. VBS ends each day at 12pm. The adult picking up the child must bring their check-in slip when picking up their child. More information will be provided closer to the start of VBS. What if I made a mistake on my registration? If you made a mistake on your registration, please email us at info@cedarbrook.org with the details of your registration. Do you provide snacks? Yes, there will be snacks. A list of snacks provided each day will be emailed prior to the start of VBS. Can I stay at the church during VBS? For the safety of the children in VBS, every adult onsite at the start of VBS at 9am through 12pm each day needs to be background checked. We invite you to volunteer with us to experience VBS with your child. Can friends/siblings in different grades be in the same group? No. We group kids by the grade they are entering in the Fall of 2026. This helps kids make new friends with their peers and ensures an age-appropriate safe and learning environment. What support is available at VBS if my child has special needs? We will have limited special needs support through buddy programming. Upon registering your child, please select the special needs box and complete the form for special needs so we can best prepare for your child. If your child requires to bring their own care provider, please have that care provider register as a volunteer. He or she will have to attend one of our training meetings so they know what to anticipate. What is the After Party? Families and friends are invited to join us Thursday evening, July 2, at 6pm for a special presentation of our VBS program. After the presentation, stay for food trucks, carnival games, bounce houses and music on our lawn. Can I make a donation for a scholarship or general VBS donation?
