- PAUL HANSEN
PAUL HANSEN Executive Pastor I am the Executive Pastor and it’s my joy and privilege to help lead, love and serve our Cedarbrook family! My best friend, Amy, and I have been married for over 30 years, and much of that time has been spent in ministry together—it’s truly been the greatest adventures of our lives. God’s blessed us with five amazing kids: our two oldest daughters are pursuing missions across Asia, our oldest son is in the U.S. Air Force, and John and Ellie are still at home keeping us young! Outside of Cedarbrook, you’ll usually find me outdoors—hiking, running, working out, or just exploring with Amy. I’ve also have a love for general aviation, while Amy is happiest diving into a new cookbook. Fun fact: she grew up as an MK in Australia, and I was a PK in New England—so ministry as a family has always been woven into both of our stories. I graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a degree in Pastoral Ministry and am currently working toward my MBA in Leadership. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of ministering in more than a dozen countries, planting churches, and serving in executive leadership both here at Cedarbrook and in the Midwest. What fuels me most is helping leaders grow, seeing churches thrive, and watching disciples make disciples who love Jesus with passion! Favorite go to treat: dark chocolate with almonds. And I always have time to grab a cup of coffee with you. Let’s do it! phansen@cedarbrook.org

As we read the Gospels, we see that he was literate, conversant, and passionate about the Word of God. And he calls his followers to be the same. A disciple of Jesus needs to understand and embrace the essential teachings of the Bible. Each month we will explore an essential doctrine of God’s Word through video and print resources. We hope that you will find these helpful in your discipleship journey. - JOHN GIST
JOHN GIST Worship Pastor I’m the Worship Pastor here at Cedarbrook, and I’ve had the joy of serving in this role for the past 15 years. My wife, Sherra, and I have a full, lively house with five amazing kids— Ivey (17), Halle (15), Misha (8), Ollie (3), and Neva (1). Life is never boring, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. When I’m not leading worship, you’ll probably find me playing music (yes, I know it’s technically my job too), out on the golf course, experimenting in the kitchen, or just spending time with family and friends. And if you ever need a laugh, just ask me about the time I played Buddy the Elf in a musical/ballet. Don’t worry—there was no actual ballet involved, though I might have busted out the Running Man. I have a BS in Kinesiology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and I’ve been serving in ministry and pastoral leadership for 25 years. My favorite treat is sushi, but my favorite part of this job has nothing to do with food. It’s getting to be part of a team that’s passionate about lifting up the name of Jesus, and being in a room filled with our church family, all singing the same words and melody, is something I’ll never stop being in awe of. john@cedarbrook.org

- SANTOS TORRES
PERU SANTOS TORRES Tell me more about your mission? We are committed to the strengthening of Quechua church leaders and to the establishment of new churches characterized by their continuous integral growth, until the coming of Christ. What are some victories I can celebrate with you? We all have the potential to make it possible for children to hear the Word of God. In the highlands, I have not seen non-Christian parents stop their children from hearing the Gospel. On one occasion, during Vacation Bible School for children, there was a child very eager to learn the Word of God. This child had been given the task of taking care and shepherding the sheep. He brought all his sheep and placed them behind the church building to attend Vacation Bible School. There are many more children like him who want to know about Jesus Christ. You can help them by praying, coming, or sending someone so that children in Lima - in the mountains or in the jungle - can know and meet Jesus Christ as their Savior. What are some of the challenges you face? The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” How can I pray for you? For a new church in Punta Hermosa. For 14 pastors in Huancavelica and 3 in Iquitos, so they can continue serving our Lord. For God's direction to start a new church in the city of Acobamba. How can I support you? Please pray for us and come and visit us, our pastors and children in our community would like to meet you. Where can I learn more? - Digital Ministry | cedarbrook
EMPOWER: Digital Ministry In October 2024, Pastor Jonathan invited the church family to participate in a survey to assess our spiritual and personal well-being. The results confirmed some existing trends and provided valuable insights to empower Cedarbrook to become more radical in following Jesus. Two key findings emerged: 66% of respondents felt the church hadn't helped them discover their life's calling 67% lacked clarity on their next steps for spiritual growth Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, we were witnessing a significant shift in communication, with fewer people attending traditional church services and more turning to the internet. This trend has accelerated, and our church cannot afford to ignore the digital landscape. How can Cedarbrook capitalize on these insights? To address these insights and adapt to the changing times, we must evolve our digital ministry strategy. We must move beyond merely sharing information and focus on building authentic connections with both church members and seekers. This involves using digital as a means to discipling individuals in digital spaces and reaching out to those outside the church who are searching for spiritual meaning. Discipling Our Church in Digital Spaces To effectively disciple our church in digital spaces, we need to leverage technology to connect, teach, and encourage believers. Goals Q2: Script, record, disseminate high quality discipleship content (podcasts, shorts, blogs, etc) Q4: Develop online courses on various spiritual topics, such as Bible study, prayer, and discipleship Reaching the Spiritually Curious Online To effectively reach the spiritually curious online, we must leverage digital platforms to engage, educate, and inspire. Goals Q1: Bolster our digital content budget to build teams to create engaging high-quality content online via blogs, social media, and video Q3: Establish a strong online presence that attracts new members and strengthens existing relationships GIVE
- Mission Projects | cedarbrook
EMPOWER: Missions Projects In October 2024, Pastor Jonathan encouraged the church family to take a survey to get a sense of how the church and her people were doing spiritually and personally. For the most part, the survey confirmed what we were already hearing and experiencing, but it also unveiled some areas of actionable intelligence that would strengthen and empower Cedarbrook to become radical in following Jesus on mission in this next year. Two insights from the survey which God is now positioning Cedarbrook to capitalize on related to this Empower initiative is as follows: 52% of all respondents said the church doesn’t provide adequate opportunities to help the suffering or marginalized in society 67% of all respondents said the church is not involved enough in addressing injustices in society The implications of each of these insights are as follows: There is a hunger within our Cedarbrook family to address societal issues as they relate to suffering and marginalized in society. We are uniquely positioned and have an opportunity to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). How can Cedarbrook capitalize on these insights? Bolster reach and effectiveness of Cedarbrook’s own relief ministries (Clarksburg Closet, Clarksburg CAN, public school outreach, etc) Develop and grow missions partnerships ministering the gospel and aid to suffering and marginalized people groups Bolstering Cedarbrook’s Own Relief Ministries Our volunteers are the heart of our benevolence and relief ministries, including Clarksburg Closet and Clarksburg CAN. However, their dedication is often stretched thin due to limited resources. To ensure we can continue to provide essential support to those in need, we aim to enhance our organizational capacity. This will allow our volunteers to spend more time connecting with individuals and less time on administrative tasks. Goals Q2: Digitize inbound requests and outbound fulfillment tracking Q4: Systematize volunteer recruiting and scheduling Developing partnerships ministering to marginalized people Similarly, our ability to minister to unreached, marginalized people groups is limited to the availability of our dedicated volunteers. As a church, we believe God is calling Cedarbrook to be a disciple-making, missional church committed to planting new churches in the Baltimore-Washington DC metro area and beyond with the goal of reaching unreached people groups with the love of Christ. Goals Q1: Expand and develop our lay missions team to be able to fully support existing local and international missions partnerships and grow our missions capacity Q3: Extend our local and international missions partnerships by 20% Q4: Identify and build capacity for two short term mission trips for 2026 GIVE
